How to repair floor and make it nice
Floors take a battering. Loose boards, worn finish, and dips are common, especially in older houses.
Start by finding the cause. A squeak or bounce can mean a loose board or a problem underneath. Don’t cover issues up if the floor feels soft or damp — that needs looking at properly first.
Once the floor is sound, a good sand, fill, and finish can make a big difference. Vinyl, laminate, or a new timber finish can smarten a room quickly if the base is right.
If it’s more than a small patch, it’s usually worth getting a builder in so you don’t create a bigger job.
